SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- Men's lacrosse looked to bounce back from their loss over top-ranked Reinhart almost two weeks ago alongside, looking to set the tone for conference play with a win against Indiana Tech.
The result was a 16-5 loss to the number two team in the country Indiana Tech. It was the first time in 3 years that the Blue Devils had been able to play at Blue Devils Stadium. In part, the long pause in action on the turf was due to various construction projects, alongside a shortened season last year due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic.
An onslaught of Indiana Tech goals had the Blue Devils looking for answers in the first quarter on offense. Until Eli Lozinksi sniped one in the back of the net off the Nathan Greenwood assist, getting the Blue Devils on the board at the 4:33 mark of the first quarter. Lozinski would snipe one again in the back of the net off the Joseph Rosales assist at the 1:29 mark of the first quarter. The Blue Devils were down 4-2, a scoreless 2nd quarter for the Blue Devils, and two more goals by the Warriors made it 6-2 at halftime. The Blue Devils would score for the first time since the first quarter when Benjamin Dalrymple scored at the 12:03 mark of the third quarter. A second goal by the Blue Devils in the third quarter, this time from Clayton Hauff off a Rosales assist, came at the 9:21 mark of the 3rd quarter. The lone goal in the 4th quarter for the Blue Devils came from Rosales knocking one in at the 13:27 mark.
Overall, Brentt Matthews had 10 saves on 26 shots, while Nik Kubik was 12-21 on faceoffs, and Tj Kaminski was 0-2. The Blue Devils had 37 turnovers, 38 groundballs, and 19 shots Saturday afternoon.
Looking ahead, the Blue Devils will look to regroup as they head to Upland, Indiana, to take on Taylor University Wednesday evening.
