Box Score 2 Beverly Hills, MI - The Blue Devils softball team played a double header at home after a long road trip. This game was played at Detroit Country Day High School against the University of Rochester. Game 1 was all about LTU pitching, where Clover Brandt held Rochester to only 1 run the whole game. She pitched a complete game in this one, and was able to get some run support from her offense, as they capped off 4 runs throughout. LTU won 4-1. Game 2 starting pitcher was Makayla Benz. This game was a pitching duel from both teams.
Game 1 (LTU 4, RU 1): The Blue Devils offense was able to hold the lead the entire game. LTU's first run came in the 3rd inning coming from a Sarah Hige single up the middle as Katie Courneya came around to score. In the 4th inning, Courneya drove in 2 more runs from a 2 RBI single to left. Moving to the 6th inning, Brittney Wieland came up to the plate, and blasted a line drive down the left field line for an inside the park home run. Katie Courneya went 3-3 and 1 run with 2 RBI. Some other Blue Devils leaders with hits from LTU were Leah Kadlitz, and Nicole Powrozek.
How it Happened: Clover Brandt was on the bump in Game 1 and pitched a fabulous complete game 1 run outing. She only gave up 2 hits on the day and that came with 4 strikeouts. She was in the zone from the very first pitch in this one, and is looking to take her momentum with her into her next start.
The Blue Devils finished Game 1 with a team batting average of .333, 4 RBI, 0 KO's on 8 hits. LTU only left 3 runners on base. 2 errors on the game.
Game 2 (LTU 4, RU 1): Game 2 starter on the mound was Makayla Benz. She was dealing all day. Only allowed 1 run the whole game and only let up 2 hits. RU's run came in the 1st inning, and Benz shut them down after that. Benz ended the game with only allowing 2 hits, 1 run, and 9 strikeouts
How it Happened: LTU and RU were both in a pitching duel in this one until the Blue Devils were able to find themselves a solid rally late in the 6th inning. Courneya smacked a double over the center fields head to drive in a RBI to expand the lead to 3-1. Hige also hit a single up the middle for a 1 run RBI after that (4-1). That was just enough offense to secure the victory and the sweep on the day. LTU had 8 total hits and gave up only 2 hits on the day.

The game will be played at Legacy Center in Brighton, Michigan. The first pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 12:00 PM. Game 2 is scheduled for 2 PM.
