Box Score 2 Beverly Hills, MI - The Blue Devils softball team played a double header at home against Siena Heights University (SHU) on Senior Day. LTU is honoring their one Senior Shortstop, Brittney Wieland. Brittney originally came into her freshman year playing catcher, and was transitioned to shortstop. She has exceled in that role and position for the team for the last 3 years. She is a great spirit and a competitor for this team. Help wish us a happy senior day for the solo senior, Brittney Wieland. Game 1 was very much of a pitcher's duel throughout the whole game. Game 1 went into extra innings as SHU was able to pull off the win by a final score of 2-1. Game 2 starting pitcher was Makayla Benz. This game was a pitching duel from both teams.
Game 1 (LTU 1, SHU 2, Final 8th inning): The Blue Devils could not find any offense in this game. The pitching from Siena was dealing all game. LTU was able to find some life late in the bottom of the 7th inning. They tied the game up from a couple errors from SHU. Elizabeth Coon reached on a fielder's choice, which scored Brittney Wieland to tie the game at 1-1. In the top of the 8th Siena was able to score one more run which was just enough to win the game by a final of 2-1 in extra innings. Sarah Hige and Katie Courneya both had a pair of hits on the day. The only RBI on the day came from Coon on her fielder's choice.
How it Happened: Clover Brandt was the starter for Game 1. She pitched a complete game loss. She gave up 8 hits and 2 runs. Benz pitched a great game through and through, but could not get any run support from her offense. Benz pitched a total of 130 pitches. She struck out 7 batters while facing 35. She walked 4 batters.
LTU ended this game with 2 errors and 6 total hits. The team's batting average in Game 1 was .272. LTU left 9 runners on base and had 3 KO's as a team,
Game 2 (LTU 1, SHU 0): Game 2 starter on the mound for the Blue Devils was Clover Brandt, and she pitched a complete gem. She was in the zone all game not allowing one single run. This was one of her best performances on the season. She only allowed 4 hits on the day, and striking out 7 batters. Brandt pitched a total of 126 pitches on the day.
How it Happened: LTU struggled again on offense, but the 1 run that came in the bottom of the 5th inning was just enough to win the game. Hige reached base on an error which drove in Brandt from 3rd. LTU's defense played a stellar game not forcing any errors. Some team stats at the plate for your Blue Devils, Katie Courneya went 1-3. Sidney Croskey went 1-3 as well as Mazie Lawler went 1-3. Clover Brandt went 1-3 with scoring the only run for the game. LTU won this game by a score of 1-0.

On Deck: The Blue Devils (11-14) next double header will be Tuesday, April 27th on the road as the team will travel to Lima, OH to play the Racers of Northwestern Ohio University. That game will be played on Racer Softball Field. Game 1 is scheduled for 1 PM and Game 2 is scheduled for 3 PM.
