Spring Arbor, MI – The Lawrence Technological University men's tennis team won three super tiebreakers to prevail in a tightly contested match at Spring Arbor University 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars won the top two doubles flights by scores of 6-3 and 6-0 respectively to capture the doubles point and head to singles action up 1-0.

Patrick Putschbach earned a point for the Blue Devils with a straight-sets victory, 6-2, 6-3 at 4-singles but the Cougars countered by winning at 1-singles to hold onto the one-point lead.

After dropping his first set at 2-singles 4-6, Nils Hammarsten rebounded to take the second 6-2 and force a super tiebreaker that he won 10-6.

Pedro Garcia-Orellana had a similar start at 3-singles as he fell in his opening set 4-6 before earning a 6-4 win in the second set. He would ride that momentum into the super tiebreaker as his 10-7 set win gave Lawrence Tech a 3-2 match lead.

This time Spring Arbor would win the super tiebreaker as Jannis Schneider won the first set 6-4 before ultimately dropping a nail-biting third set 9-11, to lose at 5-singles 6-4, 3-6, 9-11.

With the match tied at 3-3, it came down to the 6-singles match. For the third time of the day, the Blue Devils dropped the first set 4-6. Alex Rajal roared back to win the next set 6-1 on his way to winning the super tiebreaker 10-8 to clinch the match for Lawrence Tech.

The 2-0 Blue Devils take on Grace College at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2nd in their first of three matches at the Indiana Wesleyan University Pre-Season Tournament.
