Ashland, OH - The Lawrence Technological University men's tennis team traveled to Ashland to face off with The College of Wooster, where they secured a 6-1 victory in their first match of the day.
In doubles play, Lukas Obel / Pedro Orellana got the better of Shivom Dewan / Alex Anikeeff 6-1.
Patrick Johnson / Alex Drewes proved to be the better Patrick / Alex tandem as they defeated Alex Tammaro / Patrick Putschbach 6-4.
Luca Roth / Alex Rajal beat Connor Shreeter / Grayson Millettee 7-5 to take the doubles point, and give Lawrence Tech the early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, the Blue Devils secured the 6-singles match as Diego Colombo defeated Alex Anikeeff in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
The 4-singles match also went in favor of LTU, with Jannis Schneider taking straight 6-3 sets against Nebyou Minassie.
The College of Wooster secured the 5-singles match, in the battle of Patricks, Johnson defeating Putschbach in straight sets, (6-4, 6-2). This cut Lawrence Tech's lead to 3-1.
Nils Hammarsten fought back in 2-singles after losing his first set 7-5, to win the point for the Blue Devils, by winning the next set 6-2 and the super tiebreaker 10-4, respectively.
Alex Tammaro and Austin Hanna squared off for the top flight, and after swapping sets, 6-1, 5-7, Tammaro took the super tiebreaker 10-5 to take the point and clinch the match for LTU at 5-1.
Finally, in the 3-singles matchup, Pedro Orellana defeated Shivom Dewan (4-6, 7-5, 10-8).
The men's tennis team also faced off with the host Ashland University, where they lost 6-0.
In doubles play, Lukas Obel / Pedro Orellana lost their set 5-7.
Jannis Schneider / Patrick Putschbach were defeated 7-6.
Luca Roth / Alex Rajal also lost their set 6-3, giving the doubles point to Ashland in straight sets, and the early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Tammaro and Stuart Brdicka duked it out as the top flight matchup, and Brdicka came away victorious in straight sets (6-4, 6-1).
The Eagles secured the 6-singles match, with JThe luwe acob Hoffman getting past Putschbach in straight sets, (6-3, 6-4). This extended Ashland's lead to 3-0.
The hosts took the 5-singles match as Diego Colombo was defeated handly by Kun Teng Tche in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).
The 4-singles match between Jannis Schneider and Fabian Bussard was split 5-7 and 6-2 through the first two sets before Bussard took the super tiebreaker 10-8 to clinch the match for Ashland.
Nils Hammarsten fought hard in his 2-singles match. He won his first set 7-6 but then lost the next set 4-6 and the super tiebreaker 6-10 to Jordan Phelps.
The Blue Devils return to the court on Saturday, September 18th when they take on John Carroll at 1 pm.
