LTU Offense Breaks Out Versus WVU

Detroit, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological University ACHA D1 men's hockey team recorded a pair of convincing victories this past weekend at the Blue Devils Winter Classic as they defeated West Virginia 9-2 on Friday night before scoring 13 more times in a 13-1 drubbing on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened – Friday 1/7

  • After a quiet opening stanza, John Horn scored with 27 seconds left off a pass from Allen to give LTU a 1-0 advantage heading into the first intermission
  • Each Blue Devil helped set up Sean Pilet at the 12:02 mark of the second before Horn and Allen again teamed up to find Jordon Woytas for a power-play tally with 2:51 left in the second as LTU held a 3-0 lead heading to the third
  • Thimo Ey, Bryce Ebert, Erik Engdahl and Horn all scored within a total of 4:13 for LTU as it stretched the margin to 7-0
  • WVU finally got on the board 1:40 later before another goal from Pilet and Horn's third ended the scoring for LTU as they cruised to a 9-2 victory

  • Once again, Horn started the scoring, off assists from Pilet and Ey, at the 13:54 mark of the first
  • Cole Therrian netted a pair of markers 1:17 apart with five minutes left in the period to give LTU a 3-0 lead after one
  • The Blue Devils scored six goals in a nine-minute span of the second period, including Jackson Knupp's first career goal, to extend the lead to 9-0
  • Brenden Preiss tallied a power-play goal 13 seconds into the third before Allen scored consecutive goals for LTU on its way to a 13-1 win
