Southfield, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological University men's tennis team squared off with Davenport University on Saturday afternoon, falling to 4-3 inside the Franklin Athletic Club.
At 1-doubles, Putschbach/Schneider fell 2-6 but Hammarsten/Morgan picked their teammates up with a 6-2 win at 3-doubles. The lone doubles point came down to a tightly contested 2-doubles match that went to a tiebreaker with Tammaro/Roth dropping a 6-7 battle.
Alexander Tammaro was unable to recover in singles play as he dropped his 2-singles match in straight sets 2-6, 4-6.
Patrick Putschbach won his first set at 6-singlesm 6-4 but needed a tiebreaker to win the match 7-6 as LTU trailed 2-1.
At 4-singles, Pedro Garcia-Orellana used a tiebreaker to win his first set 7-6 before doubling up his opponent 6-3 in the second to knot the match at 2-2.
Nils Hammarsten lost 4-6, 3-6 at 3-singles before Davenport clinched the match at the top flight as Evan Morgan battled back after a 4-6 opening set lost to force a super tiebreaker with a 6-3 second set win. He ultimately fell 5-10 (1-0) in the third.
Jannis Schneider completed his 5-singles match winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
The Blue Devils begin WHAC play with a pair of matches next Saturday when they host Lourdes at 1pm followed by UNOH at 4pm inside the Franklin Athletic Club.
