At the Helm: Detroit native Avante Mitchell is 10-14 in his fourth season as the Blue Devils head coach. He first came to LTU in 2019 as the team's defensive coordinator. He also has collegiate coaching experience at Concordia-Ann Arbor, Taylor and NCAA Division II Northwood.

Coach Mitchell at the Mic: "In a game like we had this past weekend, there are tons of things that we as coaches have evaluate it as areas of improvement. Facing one of the top five teams in the country Week One magnifies any and all mistakes that a young team like ours made.
  • "There were a few bright spots in our game on Saturday. One will be our quarterback play from Kaleb Garner. He showed some impressive things during his time on the field. I believe he is a dynamic athlete that sees the feel well. I'm confident that by him being in our offense for the past three years, he has grasped a good understanding of the things we're trying to do within the scheme of our offense. He can hurt a team with his arm and his legs. A running game show it to be very promising. To rush for close to 200 yards against a defense, which is probably one of the best in the country, is very encouraging.
  • "As we look at our defense and what it was able to do, we showed some very bright spots as well. I am looking forward to seeing what our senior leadership on defense will accomplish this upcoming weekend and weeks to come. Andrew Perkins, our senior safety and captain is expected to have a great game this weekend along with Dantae Banton and Christian Broaden.
  • "As mentioned before, it is my true belief that we must win the turnover battle and the rushing yards battle in order for us to be successful on Saturdays this fall. We fell short in both those categories this past Saturday. Our mission is to improve upon both those this upcoming weekend.
  • "Although a nonconference game, we face another extremely formidable foe as Ave Maria University it is a great football program. They came in second place within their conference last year. We lost a close battle to them last year by one point in the closing moments of the game.
  • "We are more focused on the things we need to do in order to be successful no matter who's on the other side of the ball from us.
  • "With the hurricane that just hit Florida directly, our prayers are those affiliated with Ave Maria. We hope that all in the surrounding area are safe and from harm's way as they have safe travels coming to Michigan this weekend, and that we can share the field with them for another great outing."
Experience is Back: The Blue Devils have six returning starters on offense and seven on the defensive side of the ball, while all specialists are back.
