UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio.- The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) women's tennis team was defeated by John Carroll University (Ohio) with a score of 4-5. This result sets the all-time series 0-1 and gives the Blue Devils a 3-2 record for this season.
The Blue Devils lost all three doubles flights. At one-doubles, Anusha Varudandi (SO/Parkland Fla.) and Sabrina Mateos (JR/Mexico City, Mex.) lost 8-1 against Lauren O'Malley and Madisyn Rini. At court-two doubles, Maria Vega-Hazas (FR/Santander, Spain) and Samantha Weber (FR/Clarkston, Mich.) lost their doubles match 8-4 against Skye Harwood and Megan Reese. Doubles pair Maria Nicholls (FR/Utica, Mich.) and Maria Alvarez (JR/Ames, La Coruna, Spain) lost 8-3 against Ellie Cole and Carlyene Campagna.
LTU won four singles flights and lost two. At one-singles, Mateos lost her match against O'Malley with a score of 6-1 and 6-0. Vega-Hazas defeated Rini with a score of 5-7, 6-4, and 10-6 in the super tiebreak at court-two singles. At three-singles, Varudandi won her match against Reese with a score of 6-3 and 7-6. At four and five-singles, Weber and Alvarez won their matches against Alyssa Krupp and Harwood respectively. Weber's score was 0-6, 6-4, and 10-6 in the super tiebreak. Alvarez' score was 6-3 and 6-4. Nicholls lost her match against Campagna with a score of 0-6 in both sets at six-singles.
The Blue Devils will return to the courts on October 12 when they face Goshen College (Ind.) at the Southfield Tennis Courts at 4 p.m.
