HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's tennis team fell 7-2 to 24th-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) College on Tuesday, March 11 in PTR Spring Tennisfest action at the VanderMeer Center in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Georgetown (5-2, 0-0) got out to a 5-0 start after doubles play with victories at first and second flights. In addition, Lawrence Tech (6-6, 2-0) forfeited doubles' third flight and court-six singles. At first flight, Sabrina Mateos (JR/Mexico City, Mexico) and Maria Vega-Hazas (FR/Santander, Spain) fell to Amanda Moore and Maci Ferguson, 8-4. Samantha Kohn (SO/Dearborn, Mich.) and Samantha Weber (FR/Clarkston, Mich.) dropped an 8-2 decision against Lauren Fazenbaker and Madelyn Kauffman at court-two.
In singles action, the Blue Devils notched two victories and lost four flights. At court-two, Weber defeated Kauffman 6-3, 6-2. Vega-Hazas built a 6-4, 10-3 comeback after falling 6-1 in the first set to take third flight against Amanda Moore. Mateos lost 6-2, 7-5 against Fazenbaker at singles one, while Kohn dropped fourth flight (6-3, 6-1) to Katie Swanson. Maria Nicholls (FR/Shelby Township, Mich.) fell for a double bagel against Lauren Moore at court-five.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on Wednesday, March 12 to close their participation at the PTR Spring Tennisfest against Gettysburg (Pa.) College. First serve is set for 12:30 p.m. at Chaplin Park in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
