Blue Devils Defeat Golden Eagles, 6-3, in WHAC Action

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's tennis team defeated Cornerstone (Mich.) University, 6-3, at the Franklin Athletic Club. With this outcome, the Blue Devils moved to 3-0 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. 

Cornerstone (11-4, 1-2) took an early 2-0 lead as Lawrence Tech (9-7, 4-0) withdrew doubles third flight and singles court-six. The Blue Devils tied the match, 2-2, after doubles action as the team took first and second flights. Sabrina Mateos (JR/Mexico City, Mexico) and Maria Vega-Hazas (FR/Santander, Spain) defeated Valentina Garcia and Marissa Hooker, 8-2, at first flight. Samantha Weber (FR/Clarkston, Mich.) and Samantha Kohn (SO/Dearborn, Mich.) notched an 8-2 victory at second flight against Olivia Kelley and Nicole VerHulst.

The Golden Eagles reclaimed the lead after Maria Nicholls (FR/Shelby Township, Mich.) fell 6-0, 6-1 to Amanda VerHulst. However, the Blue Devils found the edge after Kohn and Weber took fourth and second flights, respectively. Kohn defeated Nicole VerHulst 6-4, 6-0, while Weber notched a double 6-2 victory over Kelley. Vega-Hazas secured LTU's win after winning 6-2, 6-0 against Garcia at court-one. Mateos defeated Hooker at third flight (6-4, 6-3).

The Blue Devils will return to the court on Saturday, March 30 when they host Aquinas (Mich.) College. First serve is set for 5 p.m. at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.
