Lawrence Tech Drops 5-4 Decision to Aquinas College

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's tennis team fell 5-4 to Aquinas (Mich.) College in Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday, March 30.

Lawrence Tech (9-8, 3-1) started with a 3-0 deficit after withdrawing court three doubles and singles fifth and sixth flights.

Aquinas (10-5, 4-0) pushed its lead to 4-0 after taking court-one doubles as Sabrina Mateos and Maria Vega-Hazas fell 8-2 to Remington Gerst and Martina Devetak. The Blue Devils cut the four-point deficit to three when Samantha Weber and Samantha Kohn defeated Bella Buck and Kiara Berry at second flight., 8-5.

Despite LTU's efforts, the Saints sealed the victory in singles action when Weber fell 6-1, 6-2 to Devetak at court-two. LTU won the rest of the three flights played but would not be enough as they were only able to cut the four-point deficit to one. Vega-Hazas took first flight 6-1, 6-4 against Gerst, while Mateos defeated Bailey Chouinard at court three, 6-1, 6-2. Kohn notched a 6-1, 6-3 victory at fourth flight against Buck.

The Blue Devils will be back in action on Friday, April 5 when they face off with Indiana Wesleyan as part of the IWU Wildcat Invitational. First serve is set for 4 p.m. in Marion, Ind.
