Blue Devils Take Down Concordia, 6-3, in WHAC Action

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's tennis team defeated Concordia (Mich.) University-Ann Arbor, 6-3, on Thursday, March 7 at the Franklin Athletic Club.

The Cardinals started with a slight lead of 2-0 as the Blue Devils withdrew doubles' third flight and court-six singles. Lawrence Tech tied the match after doubles action, 2-2, as they took first and second flight. The duo of Sabrina Mateos (JR/Mexico City, Mexico) and Maria Vega-Hazas (FR/Santander, Spain) defeated Kaylee Tucker and Charity Felton, 8-3, while Samantha Kohn(SO/Dearborn, Mich.) and Samantha Weber (FR/Clarkston, Mich.) notched an 8-1 victory against Kayla Verhelle and Taylor Kahlstorf.

Concordia took the lead for second time, 3-2, after Maria Nicholls (FR/Shelby Township, Mich.) retired due to injury at singles' fifth flight. However, the Blue Devils engineered a comeback and won singles' courts-one through four. Mateos and Weber took second and fourth flights, respectively, by defeating Verhelle and Kahlstorf with a pair of 6-0 sets. Kohn defeated Tucker 6-1, 6-0 at court-three. Vega-Hazas notched a 6-1, 6-2 victory at first flight against Felton.

The Blue Devils will be back in action on Sunday, March against Stockton (N.J.) University at the PTR Spring Tennisfest in Hilton Head Island, S.C. at 12:30 p.m.
