Lawrence Tech Falls 5-3 to Aquinas in WHAC Tournament Semifinal

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's tennis team fell 5-3 to Aquinas (Mich.) College in the semifinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday, April 23.

Lawrence Tech (11-11, 3-2) started with a 2-0 deficit after withdrawing court three doubles and singles sixth flight.

Aquinas (12-6, 4-1) stretched its lead to 3-0 after taking court-two doubles as Samantha Weber and Samantha Kohn fell 8-6 to Bella Buck and Kiara Berry. The duo of Sabrina Mateos and Maria Vega-Hazas gave LTU its first point after defeating to Remington Gerst and Martina Devetak, 8-1, at first flight.

In singles action, the Saints pushed their lead once again after Maria Nicholls fell at court-five with a double 6-0 to Darci TerHaar. The Blue Devils cut the three-point deficit to one when Vega-Hazas and Mateos took first and third flights, respectively. Vega-Hazas won 6-1, 6-4 against Gerst, while Mateos defeated Bailey Chouinard with a double 6-3.

The Blue Devils will be back in action next Fall.
