Fort Wayne, IN – The Lawrence Technological University men's and women's tennis teams began their seasons on Wednesday with a pair of decisive 7-0 wins over the University of St. Francis (IN).
Men's Recap:
Alex Rajal / Nils Hammarsten cruised to a 6-0 win at 2-doubles before Alexander Tammaro / Patrick Putschbach prevailed in a 6-4 decision at 1-doubles to clinch the point for Lawrence Tech.
The Blue Devils picked up a pair of points at 5 and 6 singles due to walkovers before Putschbach won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to put his team within one point of clinching the match.
That point would come from Pedro Garcia-Orellana at 3-singles as he breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win to clinch the match for Lawrence Tech.
Tammaro registered his second win of the day with identical 6-1, 6-1 set wins at the top singles position. At 2-singles, Hammarsten battled back from a 0-5 first set hole in his collegiate debut to prevail 7-5. He carried that momentum into the second set as a 6-4 victory completed the 7-0 sweep for the Blue Devils.
Women's Recap:
Alice Radde / Olga Aliagas Mejina won 6-2 at 2-doubles which was followed by a Samantha Kohn / Margot Fontaine 6-4 victory at the top flight to clinch the doubles point for Lawrence Tech.
In singles action, Samantha Weber breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win at 4-singles as Kohn picked up her second win of the day in identical 6-2, 6-2 fashion at 1-singles.
Fontaine inched her team closer to clinching the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at 3-singles before Aliagas Mejina clinched the match for the Blue Devils in her collegiate debut with a 6-2, 7-5 win at 2-singles.
Angela Anderanin also earned her first collegiate win at 6-singles (6-1-, 6-0) while Radde closed out the sweep, winning 1-and-1 at 5-singles.
The men travel to Spring Arbor for a noon match on Saturday, August 28th while the women head to Findlay for a two-day invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
