Findlay, OH – The Lawrence Technological University women's tennis team competed in the two-day Findlay Invitational this weekend, which consisted of singles and doubles brackets.
Singles Highlights:
Freshman Olga Aliagas Mejina won her first two matches in the singles bracket to advance to the semifinals before dropping that match 1-and-1 to the eventual champion. She would rebound to defeat teammate Margot Fontaine 6-2, 6-2 to take third place. Fontaine also started 2-0 in the bracket before falling to the eventual runner-up as she went 2-2 on the weekend.
Maria Nicholls earned her first win of the season in singles action and, it took a super tiebreaker as she outlasted a foe from Findlay 6-4, 1-6, 10-8.
Doubles Highlights:
Samantha Kohn and Fontaine won their first doubles match 6-1 over a pairing from Findlay before failing in their next match 3-6.
Alice Radde and Mejina got off to a slow start in doubles as they dropped their opening match 3-6. They recovered to defeat teammates Samantha Weber / Angela Anderanin 6-3 in their next match to advance to the loser bracket championship where they would be upended by another duo from Findlay 6-2.
The women are back in action on Thursday, September 2nd at 3:00 p.m. when they take on Huntington in their first of three matches at the Indiana Wesleyan University Pre-Season Tournament.
