University Center, MI – The Lawrence Technological University women's tennis team won two of the three doubles points but after holding a lead in every single flight at one point, lost five matches to Saginaw Valley State University as the Cardinals prevailed 6-2 on Friday afternoon.
Olga Aliagas Mejina / Alice Radde kicked off doubles action with a 6-4 win at the top flight. After a 5-7 loss at 2-doubles, Angela Anderanin / Samantha Weber won 7-5 to help LTU take a 2-1 advantage into singles play.
Anderanin's momentum was stopped at 6-singles as she fell 0-6, 2-6 before Radde lost 4-6, 1-6 at 5-singles.
Samantha Kohn won her first set 6-4 but was forced to a super tiebreaker, where she was quickly dispatched 1-10 as she lost her 4-singles match 4-6, 6-2, 10-1.
With the Blue Devils one match from defeat, Aliagas Mejina answered the bell at the top flight as she won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 to keep LTU alive at 2-4.
In the 3-flight, Weber quickly dropped her first set 1-6 but responded with a 6-4 win to force another super tiebreaker. Unfortunately, she would fall 3-10 to lose her match as the Cardinals clinched the match 5-2.
Margot Fontaine finished out her 2-singles match since she was already in a super tiebreaker of her own, but LTU was 0-3 in third sets for the match as she was defeated 5-7. 6-2, 10-2.
The women's team will head to the ITA Regionals on Thursday, September 30th for the three-day event being hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana.
