Marion, IN – The Lawrence Technological University women's tennis teams wrapped up the two-day Indiana Wesleyan University Pre-Season Tournament on Friday and secured a 2-1 weekend.
In their first match of the event on Thursday, the women's program earned their first-ever win versus Huntington in 4-1 fashion as the tournament is utilizing the FAST4 Tennis format (first to four team points wins the match).
In doubles play, Alice Radde / Olivia Aliagas Mejina quickly dispatched their Forester foes 6-1, before Angela Anderanin / Samantha Weber won 6-4 to secure the lone doubles point.
Weber made in a 2-0 advantage for the Blue Devils as she won 3-and-2 at 6-singles. Aliagas Mejina followed with a straight-sets 6-4, 6-0 win at 2-singles but Huntington would steal the match at the top flight to make it a 3-1 LTU lead.
Radde rebounded from a 1-6 first set loss at 4-singles to win 6-3 and force a super tiebreaker where she completed the comeback with a 10-8 win to clinch the match for LTU 4-1.
On day two, the women defeated Holy Cross in their first match of the day 4-2.
After dropping the 3-doubles match, Samantha Kohn / Margot Fontaine won 6-3 at the top flight before Aliagas Mejina won 6-4 to secure the doubles point for Lawrence Tech.
The Saints won the 4-singles match to even the match before Weber won 2-and-4 at 3-singles while but again, Holy Cross responded by taking the 2-singles match 7-5, 6-1.
Fontaine won a clutch match at 3-singles in tiebreaker fashion, 6-3, 7-6 to turn the tides in Lawrence Tech's favor before Aliagas Mejina won in a super tiebreaker 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 to clinch the match for her team.
The Blue Devils' next match was against host and nationally ranked #4 Indiana Wesleyan who rolled 4-0 but it was a successful tournament for Lawrence Tech as they went 2-1.
The women travel to Huntington on Tuesday, September for an 11 a.m. match.
