Southfield, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological University women's tennis team picked up their first win of 2022 on Saturday afternoon, beating Davenport University to 4-3 inside the Franklin Athletic Club.
At 2-doubles, Fontaine/Minners won 6-2 but Radde/Aliagas Mejina fell by the same score at the top flight. The lone doubles point came down to a tightly contested 3-doubles match that went to a tiebreaker as Weber/Nicholls prevailed 7-6.
Angela Anderanin used a super tiebreaker to win at 6-singles 6-0, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) but Carolin Minners fell in straight sets, 3-6, 6-7 at 4-singles as Lawrence Tech held a slim 2-1 lead in the match.
This time, the Blue Devils dropped a super tiebreaker as Margot Fontaine battled back from an opening set 6-7 loss to win 6-2 in her second set before falling in a tightly contested tiebreaker 8-10.
Davenport stormed back to get within one point of clinching the match at 3-2, when Alice Radde fell 2-6, 1-6 at 5-singles.
Olga Aliagas Mejina kept the match alive as she won a super tiebreaker 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) to leave the match to be decided by the 3-signles match.
Samantha Weber won the tiebreaker in her first set 7-6 before cruising to a 6-2 victory in set two to clinch the match for Lawrence Tech.
The Blue Devils begin WHAC play with a pair of matches next Saturday when they host Lourdes at 1pm followed by UNOH at 4pm inside the Franklin Athletic Club.
